Apollo Expertise

It is often said that nothing happens, unless there is a dream first. At the genesis of the Apollo story there was a dream. A dream so powerful, that it helped transform the medical landscape in India.

Why cosmetic medicine

Cosmetic Medicine encompasses both the non-surgical modalities of treatment and Cosmetic Surgery. Yes, Cosmetic surgery is a surgical procedure and having cosmetic surgery is a decision that must be thought through carefully.

Cosmetic Medicine can be exactly what you need to enhance your self- image. Having a positive self-image can give you the self confidence that you need to get a better job, try new things and live life the fullest with a renewed sense of wellbeing.

Another advantage of cosmetic surgery is the ability to correct physical defects. Many people may have physical defects that have resulted from an accident or a bad case of acne as a teenager. Some people are born with physical defects that have plagued them since birth and cosmetic surgery can finally give them a shot at a normal life.

But if you are in good general health and decide that cosmetic surgery is something that you want to do, you must know that today, in the hands of expert surgeons and world class facilities like Apollo Cosmetic clinics, the risks are really minimal and the procedures are absolutely safe.

If you have decided to get any type of procedure, choose your surgeon wisely. Get recommendations from your doctor. If possible, talk to former patients to get their input on a particular cosmetic surgeon. If you know of anyone who has had surgery, ask them for a recommendation.

Cosmetic surgery can be exactly what the doctor ordered if you are dealing with self-esteem issues. All in all, the advantages of cosmetic surgery can outweigh the risks if it can change your life for the better.

Everyone deserves to look their best. So do take the first step in making that major change with your body today with cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic Surgeries

An eyelid lift is done to even out the wrinkles around the eyes. Upper and lower eyelid wrinkles caused by the relaxation of the skin are removed and tightened. The area of concern is the lid fold for upper eyelid and at the eyelash margins for the lower lid.

The skin is lifted and the excess skin , fat and muscle are removed and sutured. This procedure is done under local anesthesia with sedation and does not require hospital stay.

Being the most noticeable part on your face, irregularities and deformities of the nose are apparent and prominent. Depending upon the case, Rhinoplasty includes elevation of a depressed nose by adding cartilage, bone or silicone implant, removal of a hump, reduction of the bulk of the tip of the nose, reduction of the size of the nostrils and narrowing of the base of the nose.

Cosmetic Nose Surgery is done using either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia and in most cases, either a single day or no hospital stay is required.

Breast Augmentation

This is done to enlarge an under - developed breast or those that become smaller or loose after child birth. An incision is made at the lower part of the breast or at the areola (dark skin around the nipple ) and a silicone implant is placed behind the breast tissue or pectoral muscle.

This surgery is done under general anesthesia and may require overnight hospital stay.

Breast Reduction

This is done to reduce the size of the breast by removing fat, breast tissue and skin from the lower part of the breast is reshaped and sutured.

Scars are barely visible as the sutures are made at the breast fold, below the areola and at the margin of the areola. Most scars fade to a greater extent in a year or two, this surgery may require one day stay at the hospital. In younger patients with good quality skin, liposuction may be effective.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

In Mastopexy, drooping and sagging breast are tightened reshaped and lifted up. Specific part of the skin are removed from the lower part of the breast and from around the areola, the skin is then pulled together and sutured, tightening the breast, and the nipple and areola are relocated higher to give a normal appearance.

Breast lift is done under general anesthesia. A silicone implant often needs to be placed at the same time to enlarge the breast in addition to tightening. This surgery usually does not require hospital stay.

Enlarged Male Breast

Correction of Gynaecomastia)

For some men breast develop to a notable size during puberty and adolescence, in many the breast remain enlarged. In very rare occasions, this problem could be associated with hormonal treatment or hormonal problems. Liposuction combined with excision of gland alone can usually solve the problem in most patients. This procedure is done under general anesthesia but usually does not require hospital stay. In large gynaecomastia an overnight stay may be required.

Face lifts are a simple way to restore elasticity and youthfulness of skin. This is done to correct the loose, sagging skin from the cheeks and neck. The area involved in surgery is around and above the ears and skin is lifted from the cheek and neck. The fascia over the muscle is also tightened and excess skin is removed and sutured. This surgery is done under local anesthesia with some sedation or general anesthesia to relax the patient and may require one day stay at the hospital.

When a scar is removed, a new scar is formed in its place. So a scar cannot be removed, it can only be improved. In this procedure scars are made less noticeable and the disfigurement is minimized. Scar correction operations are done only after the original scars have fully healed or matured. Scar revision procedures are done either under local or general anesthesia and usually do not require overnight stay in the hospital. Pitted scars can be improved by filler injections.

Although male and female hair loss pattern is hereditary and begins shortly after puberty, changing lifestyle choices also contribute to hair loss and baldness. Hair Restoration Surgery (Hair Transplant) is a permanent solution to lost scalp hair, including effective medical treatments, which are now offered in the form of a pill for men and a lotion/spray for men as well as women. Hair transplant is a surgical procedure by which permanent hair from regions of the scalp that normally never go bald, such as the sides and lower back of the head, are transferred (transplanted) to areas where thinning or hair loss commonly occurs. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and causes no or little pain. Sedation is very rarely used and patients will be fully awake during the operation.

A quick, safe and effective way to remove unwanted fat, liposuction removes fat from the body by using a tubular, probe connected to a suction machine or syringe. Fat collected on the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, arms, under the chin and upper torso can be reduced by this procedure.

Liposuction is neither a substitute for dieting nor a cure for obesity and does not prevent a person from gaining weight afterwards, therefore proper precaution and maintenance is necessary. People with reasonably normal weight and young, healthy, elastic skin, but with extra localized fat in certain areas, get the best results from this procedure. This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and usually does not require a hospital stay. An overnight stay in larger liposuction may be warranted.

Ear Correction Surgery

(Otoplasty)

Ear correction surgery is done on protruding ears to make them less visible.

The missing fold is created by folding the ear cartilage and the skin is then sutured. It can be done under local or general anesthesia and usually does not require hospital stay.

Abdominoplasty, better known as 'tummy tuck' basically tightens up loose skin in the stomach area, especially for women who have given birth or who have lost an excessive amount of weight, resulting in flab. Abdominoplasty involves resection of folds of skin of the abdomen, with relocation of navel and tightening of the abdomen muscles, to restore the lost tone during pregnancy. If someone has excess amounts of fat, liposuction may be done along with Abdominoplasty. This surgery requires general anesthesia and a three or four day stay in the hospital.

FAQs

Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions by those considering plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery. As always, we encourage thorough patient knowledge, as we have learned through decades of experience, an informed patient is a confident patient, and confidence is key to achieving the best possible outcome.

Is cosmetic surgery safe?

For the overwhelming majority of cases the answer is yes, however, all cosmetic surgery, regardless of procedure entails an element of risk. A full assessment of your current state of health, along with your medical history is made before surgery. All risks, no matter how remote are fully explained to you prior to surgery.

Though no surgical procedure is guaranteed to be entirely safe; the chance of dangerous side effects always exists. However, doctors at Apollo Cosmetic Clinics have an outstanding safety record and use only cosmetic surgery procedures that are proven safe and effective.

Is cosmetic surgery right for me?

Three things must be kept in mind; your current state of health and medical history, desired outcome, and the motivation behind your decision. When you consult with a cosmetic surgeon at Apollo Cosmetic Clinics, these factors will be fully determined and explored. At times a patient may believe a certain cosmetic surgery procedure is right for them, when in fact, alternatives exist that are more suitable and may not require surgery at all.

What is the difference between cosmetic and plastic surgery?

Cosmetic surgery is a unique discipline of medicine focused on enhancing appearance through surgical and medical techniques. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on all areas of the head, neck and body. Because treated areas function properly but lack aesthetic appeal, cosmetic surgery is elective.

Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to reconstruction of facial and body defects due to birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease. Plastic surgery is intended to correct dysfunctional areas of the body and is reconstructive in nature.

Is age a factor when considering cosmetic surgery?

Generally speaking, age does not play a factor. However, it may be that certain procedures be put off until young patients reach full height and have stopped growing. The principle consideration is always the current state of health of a candidate. If age is a factor, your doctor will advise you during consultation.

What takes place during my consultation?

Upon your visit to our clinic, you and your cosmetic surgeon will discuss your goals and the changes you wish to take place. A complete medical history will be taken and your current state of health will be determined. The doctor will explain the procedure, outline risks and viable options. You will have the opportunity to ask and get answers to any questions you may have. As with any surgery, you will sign an informed consent stating you understand the procedure, inherent risks and possible complications.

How long does it take to recover from my cosmetic surgery procedure?

Depending upon the procedure and individual, recovery times vary. What may take a week for one patient may take two for another. In general, the dressing and drains are removed in a few days subject to ideal healing and swelling may take up to few weeks. Rest and limited activity are the norm and are very important to speed healing and reduce recovery time. Regardless of the procedure, it is very important to follow the specific post-operative instructions provided by your doctor. For patients who want to avoid long recovery times, less invasive procedures such as laser skin renewal might be ideal.

My hair is thinning, but I'm nervous that hair transplantation surgery will make me look "unnatural."

Fear not. The days of "doll's hair" transplants are well in the past. These days, Apollo Cosmetic Clinics uses micrografts of hair in hair transplantation procedures though FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) rather than larger, less natural-looking grafts to ensure results that are practically undetectable after healing. These micrografts will be blended artfully into the thinning patches on your scalp, strategically placed to promote the most complete coverage possible. Because these micrografts are transplanted from areas of the head not prone to pattern baldness, the results are essentially permanent.

I've just lost a massive amount of weight, but I still have these folds of skin hanging from my body. Can you help me?

Yes! As part of our comprehensive selection of body contouring procedures, Apollo Cosmetic Clinics is pleased to offer plastic surgery options tailored specifically to the needs of post-bariatric patients. These options include the removal of excess skin from the arms and neck, body lift procedures that target the thighs, arms, and other stubborn areas of the body, and liposuction for those pockets of fat that simply haven't disappeared with time, diet, or exercise. Through such procedures, we will help you to look as healthy and fit as you truly are now that you have undergone your life-changing transformation.
